Yes, the emissions calculator is merely there for orientation purposes to determine the scale of the donation. You may determine the actual amount of the offset payment yourself.
No, only CO2 emissions are included in the SWISS calculator. This is because in science there is only a clear certainty with regard to the aviation sector about the climate impact of CO2 emissions (see also About the CO2 calculator). However, after calculating the CO2 emissions each customer has the option of varying the payment by clicking on "I'd rather donate a different amount instead".
The factor is 3.15, i.e. one tonne of kerosene produces 3.15 tonnes of CO2 during combustion.
9. How long does CO2 remain in the atmosphere?
CO2 accounts for the largest percentage of the greenhouse gases produced by mankind. It is also a gas with a long life and remains for up to 100 years in the atmosphere. During this period, it exercises a greenhouse gas effect.
